These food storage jars have been around since the mid 1700′s and were originally used to wax seal and preserve foods.

They are still very much in use today by those of us that can our own goods but they have so many more uses especially in a primitive decorated home. Mason jars can evolve into lanterns, kitchen utensil holders, flower vase, clear canisters and a host of other things. There are so many things that you can do with these jars!

 To dress up a mason jar all you need is some Raffeta and a hot glue gun!

Dressing up your windows is easy as well, wild flowers or herbs can be tied with twine and hung upside down to dry. An empty wooden barrel makes a lovely side table for the porch, want to get fancy paint a checker board on the top of the barrel now you have a game table.

Weave grape vines in and out of a rustic chandelier. Primitive decor is all about simple designs made from simple materials. Of course if you are not necessarily crafty or do not have the time to get the look it is perfectly acceptable to buy pieces that have been refurbished for you!

Rugs, Pillows and Other Accents

There are plenty of options that you can choose from. Using a country rug and some pillows that are crafted in the primitive decor will give you a jumping off point.
